Supporting People in the Community: coming soon to the VR Hub

We're building a new VR Hub module for the developmental services and community support space: Supporting People in the Community.

The scenario puts learners in the position of a support worker helping an individual navigate everyday community activities: attending a fitness class, going to a baseball game, running errands. The learner practices offering meaningful assistance while respecting the individual's autonomy, communication style, and right to make their own choices.

What learners practice

• Recognizing when someone needs help and when they need space
• Person-centered communication under real-world distractions
• Balancing safety with dignity and independence
• Adapting to unpredictable environments: noise, crowds, transitions

This module is being developed in partnership with organizations serving the developmental services (DS) community. It builds on the shared simulation library approach we've been piloting with the DS Collective.
